Grand Voyage

Grand Voyage captures the essence and memories of travel, from places near and far! This large piece (two feet wide, three feet high) is a collection of imagery, text, and found objects that embodies travels from around the world - from the Americas to Asia, and all points between!

The middle canvas features a world map, layered with beautiful texture and complimentary colors. The lower part of the canvas is layered with upcycled and textured corrugate, with an open roll of medium format film. Opening from this roll is resin set money from Cuba, a handcrafted, texturized piece of metal topped with a fleur-de-lys bottle cap. The upper portion of this canvas is layered with travel themed graphic and text with a crackle finish, with a vintage vellum envelope beneath a beautiful copper sliding plate which reveals an image of Ancient Rome taken from a stereograph image.

Below this canvas is the richly textured collage set with encaustic, revealing images and text from around the world including images that I have captured while on my travels. Here you will find vintage postcards, ephemera, a text book cover, a stereograph photo slide, and other imagery that reveals how many places there are in the world to explore.

The large, solid wood frame is colored with multiple layers of wood stain and then sealed, blending naturally to the color palette of the piece.

Special Care for Encaustic Artwork... Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
