Bewitched By Bountiful

You may be wondering “Where in the world did he come up with this title!?!” These are two of the recent paper lines from Authentique Paper, Bewitched (for Halloween) and Bountiful (for Fall). I recently found a blank wood pumpkin at the craft store and I started to think to myself why should a project only be for one holiday, when pumpkins can be used for anytime during the Fall. That’s when I had the bright idea to create one project that can be used for both Halloween and Thanksgiving!

Every year I look forward to the Halloween paper from Authentique – and as usual, Sam and her team did not disappoint! Besides the great texture and weight of the paper, there’s always so many fun images from the Detail Sheets. And of course I’m always in love with the patterns of the papers with rich colors that have a more antiqued tone. Although Halloween will soon be passed us, you still have all those memories that you’ve made dressed up and celebrating so the Bewitched line is the perfect go to paper!

There seems to be this misconception that you can’t use scrapbook paper for mixed media projects – I’m here to tell you that you’re wrong! This is the perfect home decor piece, and by using colored texture paste with your favorite inclusions like glass glitter and microbes, it’s never been easier to make a fun piece to decorate the house.

Turn this pumpkin around, and you’ll find this Fall themed mixed media memory plaque that is perfect for Thanksgiving! I used the Bountiful paper collection, along with the Detail Stickers to create this ‘layout’. The brown, orange and blue found in the patterned papers was a fun combination to incorporate into painting and texturing the embellishments.

Thanksgiving always seems to be the looked over Holiday here in the States, and personally this is probably my favorite Holiday through out the year! Not only is there great food, but it’s the one time of the year that the family actually gathers to be thankful for everything in our lives without the pressure of presents (like Christmas). The Bountiful line was so easy to create and add embellishments and other found objects that I usually use for my mixed media pieces.

Of course I used some of my favorite Finnabair products for creating the texture and adding color to this project. I even created custom acorns painted with Metallique paints and topped with Bronze Glass Glitter. And now I have the perfect decor piece that not only captures the adventures of a fun road trip, but also as a reminder of just one of the things I have to be thankful for this year!
