Line Drawing

You don’t always have to create a straight line when drawing, and every artist knows that it’s better to draw outside the lines anyhow! This collage piece is a small study in the art of line drawing, pricing some tools and inspiration from found objects and ephemera.

The dimensional texture background of the central canvas features a green hued earth tone palette, with upcycled corrugate layered with a crackled pattern paper which serves as the base for the rusted metal mesh, vintage ruler piece and antique drawing tool with a dual ink dip nib/pencil tip.

The encaustic background features layered text, images of roof tops, Big Ben, Japanese tea ceremony and other ephemera like a dressmakers pattern to give a lineal dimension to the backdrop of the collage. This sets inside of wood frame in a rich brown color which compliments the tone of this piece.

Special Care for Encaustic Artwork…

Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
