The FOTO series is a collection of images that I have taken over the years on my journeys – and after being asked by friends and family for prints of some of my images, I decided to get creative and create smaller keepsake versions of my pieces.

Needle and Arches is an image I captured while walking at the Pacific Science Center here in Seattle. The arches, along with the iconic Space Needle, were built for the 1962 World’s Fair and this view captures the beauty found in the architecture from this era. The print is mounted onto a wood frame, with the image being set with layers of encaustic to add dimension and a slight texture to the print. The edges of the frame are texturized, then painted in a matte black. This process of creating each print makes each one unique as the result of the wax and the way the texture paste sets.

Special Care for Encaustic Artwork…

Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
