“Escutcheon” is a creative adventure exploring textures and layers of text and imagery that produced this stunning piece of artwork with an iridescent finish of golden olive that is even more stunning in person! Like it’s name, the escutcheon used on this piece is an antique French find in itself, somehow broken along it’s journey before becoming part of this piece. The escutcheon is topped with Victorian brass findings from an old church in England.
The base of this piece is a solid birch wood panel measuring 16 x 24 inches (excluding the frame piece in the upper right corner) that was first layered with text and imagery, which was then set with layers of wax (encaustic). Crackle and texture mediums were then used to create the texture, along with using upcycled finds like the old frame part and corrugate. Multiple color washes were then added over the piece to slowly build the color and depth of the piece.
“Escutcheon” has been part of my personal collection since it’s creation, but to make more room for newly created pieces it’s now looking for the perfect home.
