Accolades is a mixed media fusion piece of artwork, combining a variety of different mediums including resin, encaustic, vintage found objects and handcrafted metal embellishments. This assemblage has been created on a light-weight wood panel featuring a juxtaposition of matte finishes with metallic highlights, smooth modern finishes with rusted edges.

The lower portion of this piece features a richly textured graphite colored background with metallic highlights. Set into this is a piece of antique toy train track, held into place with small wood nails which stand out approximately 2 inches (5cm) from the piece. Resting on the train track is a small photo transfer set on metal, set with a crackle texture then finished with resin.

The upper portion of the background uses a printed background of locks and keys, set beneath multiple layers of wax using the encaustic technique to create texture and depth. There are three raised vignettes setting above with crackle finished printed backgrounds, all of them then set with layers of resin. The edges are created from the same texture and color used in the lower portion of the main background.

The LEFT panel was created from upcycled corrugate with the printed flourish background with a handcrafted copper medallion. The background of the medallion has embossed script, with the inside of the cone sparkling with a unique crystal rivoli.

The MIDDLE panel showcases an upcycled antique escutcheon, replacing the knob with an upcycled mercury tube. Inside of the keyhole you will discover a slightly ghostly appearing image of a woman’s face looking out at you. This panel is set on a layered piece of acrylic used for electronics parts with a printed background featuring small fleur-de-lys.

The RIGHT panel is set on an upcycled piece of corrugate with a lock and key printed background. Layered on the panel you will find an antique barn star. Placed in the center of the star is a vintage gear part with a Victorian brass floral end cap.

 

 

Special Care for Encaustic Artwork…

Encaustic artwork is created with a combination of beeswax (note for those who are allergic) and damar resin. This art form has existed for centuries, but because of the natural properties of the wax it does require to be displayed out of direct sunlight in a temperature controlled environment.
