Old World Tapestry Book

One of my favorite things do to is create journals and books because I journal so much.  It’s my private place where I can unload, dream and vent without any worries – get things out of my system and through it out to the universe.  This particular upcycled book was made for a friend, and for those that know me can definitely see that this is not my usual color palette LOL  This cover can be easily adapted to a card or even as a framed piece of art so don’t limit yourself in thinking of how or where you could create a similar piece.

Here’s how to create your own…

The first step is to cut your paper to the size of whatever book you’re going to be covering, or if creating a card cutting to a 5˝ x 7˝ size which is the size of the embossing folder, plus a little extra. Using a Jumbo Dauber, apply your base color of Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid.  You don’t have to cover the entire sheet, just enough to have good coverage.  Next add Brilliance Pearlescent Purple, followed by Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue.  The last two colors are more of a highlight color.

Lightly spritz the backside of your colored cardstock before placing inside of the “European Tapestry” embossing folder and embossing the pattern into the cardstock.  Now that you have created your background, lightly highlight the raised pattern with Delicata Shimmer Silver ink – LOVE this inkpad by the way!  And the beauty of this inkpad is that it actually air dries in approximately 10 minutes so there’s no need for using a heat gun. To add even more sparkle to the cover, lightly mist the cover with Sheer Shimmer Spritz Sparkle.

Once the ink is all dry, adhere to the cover of your book – be careful to not press too hard to avoid flattening out that beautiful pattern you’ve created!

For the focal point of the cover, die cut/emboss the layering base piece with the Majestic Squares die and color with Brilliance Purple and Sky Blue, then lightly highlight with Delicata Silvery Shimmer.  Die cut the solid butterfly (background) from white cardstock and then color with Brilliance Orchid and Purple.  Cut the patterned butterfly from heavy weight vellum.  Use dimensional adhesive to layer all the pieces together onto the cover over a piece of coordinating May Arts ribbon.  Add dimensional pearls to highlight the pattern of the book cover.
