Today on the Authentique Paper Blog all of us on the design team had a challenge- to use the “Thrilling” collection to create a non-Halloween project! Because my fav design from this collection is the “Superstition” paper with the skull and cross bones, I had the perfect project for this challenge- a layout that I’d been planning to do for a few months now!
A little bit about this layout, which will explain why I chose this paper… When our nephew Nate was living with us for the past year, his father came out to Seattle to visit for a long Holiday weekend. We were excited to have him come visit and asked him what tourists things he wanted to do, thinking he would say the Space Needle, Pike Place Market or the typical stops. But where did he tell us he wanted to go- Cafe Mecca! Evidently it’s been on some national cooking show for being one of the best greasy spoons in the country. I found it funny that he wanted to go here because this was one of the 24 hour dingy and dark places you stopped at after going out to the clubs all night- and that I’d never actually been there during the daytime LOL So we went there for breakfast, and since it has that rocker kind of vibe even on the sandwich board out front I knew that Thrilling would be a great paper to capture our adventure.
I also had a little fun with Crafters Workshop stencils, creating some backgrounds using Memento Luxe in Morocco which coordinates with the Thrilling papers perfectly. To give the pictures, layering pieces and embellishments a finished touch I applied Memento Luxe in Morocco and Tuxedo Black with a Sponge Dauber to edge all the pieces.
