Although many of you are currently wishing for warmer weather with the cold and snow that January brings, I always look forward to this month because it means the release of new products from many of the arts and crafts manufacturers! Last week I attended the Creativation 2017 show in Phoenix and had the opportunity to see what’s new and hands down my absolute favorite new products were from Finnabair with her new line of Stone Effects Pastes, Sparks Acrylic Paints, Antique Waxes and Patina Effects Pastes. All of these products will be shipping in the next couple of weeks so your wait is almost over to take your mixed media to the next level!
The Sparks paints differ from the original Metallique line of metallic paints that were released last year because the Sparks have this incredible sparkle added, giving a rich and subtle ‘bling’ finish to your projects. And when used with the new Metallique Waxes, the luster finish is beyond compare! The waxes are so easy to use and have a rich metallic finish that is absolutely beautiful! I’ve found that I can use a heat gun so make the wax melt and spread for a more unique, layered metallic finish. I recently created The Artistic Frame project (above) using these new products and created a simple tutorial for creating your own.
Being part of the Finnabair Creative Team has allowed me to really explore my mixed media endeavors, and recently I also created The Altered Muffin Tin as a project. In case you didn’t see this project on my Facebook page, I’m including the link here for the video tutorial for creating your own! Even if you don’t want to transform a muffin tin, you can use many of the techniques in this video for a variety of different projects.
I’ve heard from many of you that you love my projects and wish that you could take my classes from me in person but either for logistical or location reasons can’t attend in person. You’ll be happy to know that I’m in the process of filming those classes so that they’ll be available online this year! That way you can learn how to make a variety of different projects from the comfort of your own studio while working at your own pace.
Speaking of classes, I’m traveling to one of my favorite stores to teach classes this weekend – Runaway Art and Craft Studio in Salem OR (fingers crossed no snow!). We’re having a Valentine themed weekend full of classes with all of the projects incorporating the Beloved paper collection from Authentique. Friday night we’ll be creating a heart locket bezel along with a Flaming Heart from the Relics and Artifacts Collection. On Saturday we’ll be making the BeLOVEd mixed media frame, and on Sunday the BeLOVEd album will created. You can visit the Runaway website for more details on the classes if you’re in the area and would like to attend. You can also see more pictures of the projects on the ArtNewWave Instagram page.
Just a note for all of you who are store owners/retailers – my schedule for the year is beginning to fill up so don’t hesitate in getting in contact with me about reserving a place on my calendar for teaching this year at your location. That way we can at least reserve some dates in advance for your students!
