Welcome to my creation for 2014 World Card Making Day!
Call me old school, but I’m still a sucker for a hand crafted, hand written card – it shows just how much someone truly cares. They took the time to MAKE this card for me, the TIME to write a message from the heart. And let’s face it, email and Facebook messages just don’t hold the same meaning as something that you can hold and later display, to look at and cherish. In keeping with this spirit, I created this card with the Prima Epiphany Collection, along with some of Finnabair’s Art Basics.
Time to create!
Create a card base from natural colored cardstock hard torn/scored to a finished size of 5˝x7˝, folded on the long side. Create layering pieces from the “Words to Live By” 12×12˝ paper, deckling the edges to give an antiqued look. Adhere pieces onto the natural colored card base.
Now it’s time to create some texture and have fun with stencils! To keep my card from moving while working with my stencils, I use painter’s tape to secure it to my craft mat – and it helps keep the rest of my card clean too. I used the following recipe for creating my custom texture paste: Texture Paste White Sand (base) + Sea Breeze Chalkboard Paint + Charcoal and Light Pink Art Sugar. Mix this well with your palette knife, and begin to spread through your stencil. Since I wanted an antique look to the card, I quickly added the texture paste, not minding if I was missing spots in the pattern. I worked from the edge of the card just up to the inner text of the inside layering piece. Remove the stencil and sprinkle the texture paste with Art Sugar and mica pieces to add a little more bling. Allow to air dry for the best results, but you can always lightly set with a heat tool.
For more added sparkle and texture, add drops of Color Bloom sprays over the text background in Sparkly Pastel Cotton Candy and White. Simply unscrew the spray head from the Color Bloom bottles and tap onto the spray to drop the color onto the background. Dip a Fantastix brush into the Cotton Candy bottle and color in the butterfly and key in the printed pattern. Ink the background stamp with Plum Chalkboard Paint and stamp onto the background, the stamp the sentiment over the top with StazOn Jet Black.
Now to start adding the embellishments to the card! Paint the butterfly charm with Plum Chalkboard Paint and once dry lightly sand the embossed areas to reveal the silver metal. Add swirl rhinestone stickers below the butterfly to give it a little bit of movement, then use dimensional adhesive to place the butterfly onto the card. Tie a small bow with onto the clock charm and then add to the card with dimensional adhesive.
Color the resin frame by misting with Cotton Candy and White Color Bloom Sparkling Pastels, then sprinkle with Art Sugar Light Pink before heat setting. Once dry, trim the image of the woman from the Ephemera pack to fit the frame and adhere to the back of the frame. Add a couple of sprays of Cotton Candy onto your craft sheet, then pull a piece of twin through the ink to color the white of the twin pink. Attach the key charm to the frame with the colored twine, then secure the frame onto the card. Add the flower and ink bottle onto the card, and finish with adding sequins along the bottom of the printed design.
I hope this card inspires you to create your own works of art for World Card Making Day!
